Reading the news
You can read everything on this site without giving us any personal information and without an account.
When you open an article we count the view so we know which stories are read. We record the article, the date and the time. We do not record your IP address, your name or anything else that identifies you with that view.
When you write to us
If you use our Contact page we keep what you send: your name, mobile number and/or email address, the subject, your message, the IP address it came from and the type of browser you used. We use this only to reply to you and to deal with what you raised, and the IP address only to protect the form from abuse.
If you use our Advertise with us page we keep the details of your enquiry — business name, your name, mobile number, email address, type of business, town, the kind of advertising you are interested in, an approximate budget and your message — together with the IP address it came from. Our advertising team uses these to reply to you about advertising and for nothing else.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for any purpose other than the one you gave it to us for.
Cookies
This site sets two cookies, both needed for it to work:
- a session cookie, which lasts two hours and is used by our Contact and Advertise forms;
- a security cookie, which protects our forms from being submitted by other websites.
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies or tracking pixels.
Other services your browser contacts
Our pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to fetch them, as it does on most websites. If you press "Share as image" on an article, your browser also downloads two small programs from cdnjs to build the picture. The advertisements you see are served by us, not by an advertising network; we count how many times each advertisement is shown and clicked, and nothing about who saw it.
How long we keep it
We keep messages and advertising enquiries only for as long as we need them to deal with what you raised. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can also withdraw any consent you have given. Write to us using the contact details below and we will respond.
